Les quatre types de traction intégrale 4Matic

Mercedes-Benz is known for the safety of its models, and much of the stability and durability that we learn to adore when we drive a vehicle from the German manufacturer is due to its 4Matic all-wheel drive technology.
4Matic AWD ensures stability and flawless handling in all road conditions, regardless of whether the road is wet, snowy, or icy. 4Matic AWD can even help us on a track or during more spirited driving.
With 4Matic, your Mercedes-Benz becomes much more predictable and you are always in control of the situation. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz understands that its owners want a system that works without being too intrusive. Let's take a look at the four types of 4Matic all-wheel drive.
4Matic Variable AWD
The 4Matic Variable All-Wheel Drive system distributes power between the front and rear wheels according to the needs of the moment and the road conditions. When the road is clear, only the front wheels receive power. If the front wheels ever lose their grip, or any loss of control is detected, power is transferred to the rear wheels. The main advantage of this system is that it reduces fuel consumption when 4Matic is not needed.
4Matic Permanent AWD
The 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive system also distributes power between the axles through either 50/50 ratio between the front and rear wheels, or in some cases a 45/55 ratio. What counts here is that each axle receives torque from the engine at all times and the vehicle’s stability is therefore assured at every moment and regardless of road conditions. 4Matic can then distribute the torque between the axles as needed.
AMG Performance 4Matic AWD
AMG Performance 4Matic AWD can be variable or permanent. When it is permanent, it distributes the power at a ratio of 33/67 between the front axle and the rear axle. The objective of AMG's performance AMG drivetrain is to provide unparalleled stability without compromising the sensational performance capabilities offered in AMG models.
