2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS: Luxury for the Whole Family
August 29 2016,
Buyers looking for a family-oriented vehicle that combines interior space, safety, refinement, and luxury have quite a few choices on the market, but very few of those options, if any, are as balanced as the all-new 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS. With a new name and a lot of new technologies, the GLS is more than a worthy replacement to the GL-Class.
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS: the S-Class of SUVs
Mercedes-Benz has just recently changed the name of its sport utility vehicles in order to help consumers understand where they fit in terms of pricing and equipment. Hence, the GLK became the GLC as it is, like the C-Class is for Mercedes-Benz sedans, the compact luxury SUV. The GLE is the midsize offering like the E-Class is the midsize sedan, and finally the GLS is, well, the S-Class of Mercedes-Benz SUVs.
That means it offers the most luxury, the most comfort and the most overall refinement. There are currently three versions of the Mercedes-Benz GLS: the GLS 450, the GLS 550 and the GLS 63 AMG. Starting at $82,900, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 4Matic is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque at only 1,800 RPM. That’s good enough to get the 2017 GLS 450 to 100 km/h in only 6.6 seconds.
Next in line is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS 550 4Matic, which starts at $104,300 and is powered by a powerful 4.7-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers nothing short of 449 horsepower and an impressive 516 lb-ft of torque.
Of course, buyers who want even more power will want to turn to the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 and it’s twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that sends 577 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. Starting at $132,900, the GLS 63 is truly a collection a numbers, and only needs 4.6 seconds to get to 100 km/h.
Not only do these engines ensure you always have plenty of power, but they also allow the new 2017 GLS to tow up to 3,500 kg.
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS: lap of luxury for the whole family
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS truly offers plenty of space for the whole family, while also ensuring that there is enough room for everyone’s bags. Indeed, there is still 295 liters of cargo space in the back when all three rows are up, and up to 2,300 liters of cargo space when you fold the middle and third rows.
