2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB: redefining the luxury compact SUV concept
February 03 2020,
The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is a compact, yet versatile SUV complete with advanced amenities, power, efficiency and standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It is also the first compact Mercedes-Benz available as a seven-seater, with optional third row seats that fit passengers up to 1.68 metres in height. Two models make up the GLB model line, including the GLB 250 4MATIC and the sportier AMG GLB 35.
The GLB’s off-road character is complemented by advanced standard equipment such as LED High Performance headlamps and front fog lamps with LED technology. The front fog lamps have a wider light distribution than the headlamps and ensure peripheral areas are well lit. Their low profile on the front bumper reduces distractions for on-coming drivers.
Quiet, capable and efficient power in the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB
Both GLB trims use advanced four-cylinder engines that deliver reliable and riveting performances. The GLB 250 4MATIC has a 2.0L turbocharged engine that generates 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque that begins at 1,800 rpm. It pairs with an 8G-DCT 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that enhances performance and provides a fuel efficiency rating of 9.2 / 6.4 L/100 km (city/highway).
The more powerful AMG GLB 35 includes a 2.0L twin-scroll turbo engine that produces 302 hp and 296 lb-ft of virtually matched torque. It also receives the 8G-DCT eight-speed automatic transmission. The 35’s fuel efficiency rating is expected to be a surprising 9.3 / 6.5 L/100 km (city/highway), impressive for any engine rated over 300 horsepower.
All GLB models include 4MATIC all-wheel drive with DYNAMIC SELECT mode switching.
A family-friendly interior in the compact 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB
The GLB maximizes available space with a segment-leading 1,035 mm of headroom in the first row. Rear legroom in five-seat models is a comfortable 967 mm, which is great for business associates and friends, and even better for younger family members.
With rear seats down, cargo capacity extends to 1,755 mm. Five-seater models have 560 mm of load compartment capacity with rear passenger seats occupied. Three-row configurations have a cargo capacity of 179 liters with a full load of passengers. The GLB is the first compact vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz family to offer an optional third-row seat.
