2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB vs. 2020 Audi Q3
September 15 2020,
The new GLB is making its place in the compact luxury SUV segment with advanced human-vehicle communications, a spacious interior, admirable performance and more. It is facing off with stiff competition, including the Audi Q3. Here, we compare both vehicles to help illustrate the GLB's capabilities.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB brings turbocharged power to life
The GLB immediately brings advanced power to its lineup with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. It produces 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. If you seek acceleration, the GLB achieves 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.
The Audi Q3 features the same type of engine with similar horsepower and torque numbers as the GLB. However, this is about how close the Q3 reaches the GLB's capabilities. The GLB's eight-speed dual-clutch transmission enables faster shifting and acceleration. The Q3's standard eight-speed automatic transmission doesn't catch up, resulting in the Q3's lower 0-100 km/h time of seven seconds.
The GLB is also available in the 302 horsepower AMG 35 variant, outfitted with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8-speed transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB offers more versatility and cabin automation
With the Audi Q3's starting MSRP at $45,900 and the GLB's at a lower $43,990, you'd expect the Q3 to make up the difference somewhere, but that can be difficult to find.
The GLB with its available third-row split 50/50 seat expands its versatility over the Q3 with more capacity for more passengers. The GLB also features more passenger room, including more front and rear head room and leg room. And the differences aren't small (up to +53 mm). When the need for extra comfort is required during long trips, the GLB delivers.
If you want to take advantage of the 1,804 litres of cargo volume in the GLB, just fold down the rear seats and load up. This amounts to 278 more litres than what is available in the Q3. The GLB also provides 680 litres of cargo volume behind the rear seats. With the GLB's split seating, you will be able to configure the vehicle to match your passenger and cargo space requirements.
All GLB models include Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), a system that allows you to interact with the vehicle and adjust many cabin features through verbal communications. Your passengers can even interact with the system. The Q3 doesn't provide this level of interaction.
