2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC vs. 2020 BMW X3
March 09 2020,
The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC is a compact luxury crossover that is poised to disrupt the segment with more power, performance and capability with this year’s model line. The GLC offers several trim options, including an upcoming hybrid that are pushing the GLC past the competition. Here, we illustrate this point by placing the GLC in a head-to-head comparison with the BMW X3 series.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC’s exterior includes performance advantages
The GLC begins its driving experience with an advanced exterior design that features several dimensions that enable performance and prove more limited on the X3. First, the GLC is lighter (1,815 kg versus 1,890 kg), giving the more powerful engines a head start. The GLC is also shorter (4,656 mm versus 4,722 mm) and lower by 33 mm. This creates a lower center of gravity and enhanced agility that adds to every driving experience in the GLC.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC offers more performance options and power
The Mercedes-Benz GLC series features several engine options. The GLC 300 includes a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine with a power output of 255 hp and 273 lb-ft torque. When adding top-of-the-line AMG features, the Mercedes AMG GLC 43 includes a 362 hp twin-turbo and the AMG 63 S is driven by a 503 hp 4.0L twin-turbo eight-cylinder. The upcoming GLC 350e 4Matic hybrid includes a 315 hp and 413 lb-ft powerplant. All GLC engines pair with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission that offers transparent shifting.
The BMW X3 features just two engines. The first is a turbocharged four-cylinder in the xDrive30i that rates at 248 hp, which is lower than the standard GLC 300. The X3’s performance model is the M340i, which has a turbocharged six-cylinder that outputs 382 hp.
Overall, the GLC family is equipped with power that surpasses the X3 series.
The GLC offers all occupants more front and rear legroom and rear shoulder room, providing more space to relax and enjoy the performance of the GLC. Occupants also benefit from standard features not available with the X3, including power folding mirrors, Remote Engine Start, and front knee airbags. All models also include updated active and passive safety features that offer a peace of mind.
