2021 Mercedes-AMG A 35: impressive in every respect
November 25 2020,
The Ontario and Quebec markets have always been fond of high-performance small cars, as well as hatchback models. It's a good thing, because the 2021 Mercedes-AMG A 35 offers both. Take a look at the one that is impressive from every point of view.
In fact, it's so impressive that you don't really know where to start.
Let's go with the way she lets herself be discovered. First of all, it's its design that seduces us. Aggressive styling, sleek proportions, short overhangs that herald incisive handling and a very present AMG signature don't go unnoticed at first glance.
Then, as you settle in, you're treated to a top-notch presentation. The truth is that this entry-level car offers the quality that's normally reserved for variants higher up in the hierarchy. This is without a doubt one of the great strengths of this A-Class, because it never gives the impression of having made a compromise.
Thus, the presentation is pleasing to the eye and the discovery of the materials that dress the cocoon is meant to be reassuring; they didn't skimp on the details. Then, in front of the driver, you can enjoy a huge screen that once filled the role of the instrument cluster, and then performs its functions related to the multimedia system's amenities, i.e. the audio system and navigation. And speaking of this multimedia system, named MBUX for Mercedes-Benz User Experience, it's a truly impressive approach. It takes voice recognition to another level.
And then there's the really interesting stuff. When you press the start/stop button, you roar a mechanical system that looks very small, but has the strength to catapult you into orbit. See for yourself; the 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that sits under the hood offers 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That's huge for a car this size. Unsurprisingly, the 0-100 km/h reference time is 4.7 seconds. To manage this power, Mercedes uses a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. The latter distributes the mechanical rage to the four corners of the car for maximum traction.
And how does all this translate on the road? The best way to find out is to come and test drive a model, but basically, it's a nervous car that shows up on the road. Power is always available and the steering really lets you let yourself go in traffic and on back roads. Comfort levels are perfect, as the suspension is a good balance between smooth and firm.
Truly, this AMG A 35 is a real highlight in the Mercedes-Benz family.
