Mercedes-AMG Unveils New GLC Coupe Models with First-Ever E PERFORMANCE Hybrid
September 27 2023,
Mercedes-AMG is expanding its midsize luxury portfolio with the introduction of its new GLC Coupe. Hot on the heels of the recently revealed GLC SUV, the latest coupe variant promises a dynamic fusion of elegance and AMG’s hallmark performance features. The lineup includes two robust models—the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe and the groundbreaking GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe—both set to debut in Canada in 2024.
Powertrain Options: Hybrid Meets High Performance
The GLC Coupe offers two distinct powertrain options aimed at diverse driving needs. The GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe is the star of the show, representing the brand’s first performance hybrid SUV coupe. It pairs an AMG M139l 2.0-liter turbo engine with an Electric Drive Unit (EDU) located on the rear axle. This combination cranks out a staggering 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque. The second option, the entry-level GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe, is no slouch either, delivering 416 horsepower and offering a 14-horsepower boost at lower RPMs through a belt-driven starter generator.
Both models feature standard rear-axle steering, AMG's 4MATIC permanent all-wheel-drive system with a rear torque bias, and an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission. The models also benefit from the AMG RIDE CONTROL chassis, which includes adaptive damping technology for a more agile driving experience.
Distinctive Design Language: Athletic Meets Elegant
On the exterior, the GLC Coupe boasts a sporty silhouette that smoothly transitions towards the rear. It features AMG-specific elements such as a unique front apron with large air inlets, vertical fins, and additional aerodynamic flics. Wheel options range from 20- to 21-inch formats, and the two-part taillights contribute to a wider visual impression of the rear.
For the interior, the GLC Coupe comes with AMG seats wrapped in ARTICO/MICROCUT AMG microfiber, adding a sporty touch. Optional upgrades include Nappa leather upholstery and an AMG Performance steering wheel.
Cutting-Edge Technology: MBUX and AMG TRACK PACE
The tech package inside the GLC Coupe is led by Mercedes' MBUX infotainment system, which includes AMG-specific displays. It offers various modes, including the AMG-exclusive "Supersport" style for the central display, where drivers can view their current chassis or transmission settings. For those keen on hitting the racetrack, the optional AMG TRACK PACE feature is a data logger that records over 80 vehicle-specific data points, such as speed and steering angle, for further analysis.
With its striking design, innovative hybrid technology, and robust performance features, the new Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe is poised to set new standards in the midsize luxury SUV segment. Whether you opt for the performance-hybrid GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe or the robust GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe, you're in for an unparalleled driving experience. Expect both models to hit Canadian roads in 2024.
