Mercedes-Benz Canada has officially announced the launch of the eagerly awaited 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e 4MATIC SUV, expected to make its debut at dealerships from coast-to-coast in Q4 2023. This new plug-in hybrid model heralds a significant step forward in the electrification journey for the company, taking its place as the second PHEV vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz Canada lineup, following the introduction of the 2023 S 580e Sedan.
The GLE 450e 4MATIC sets itself apart with a permanently excited 134-hp synchronous motor, giving it a combined system output of up to 381 hp and 479 lb-ft of system torque. The hybrid drive program prioritizes electric driving, particularly in city environments, while also maintaining off-road electric capability thanks to the Off-Road drive program. The GLE 450e 4MATIC comes standard with an 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC on-board charger.
Keeping in line with its sibling, the GLE 450 4MATIC SUV, the GLE 450e 4MATIC offers a similar package and feature structure. Noteworthy standard upgrades include a new multifunction steering wheel with capacitive controls, a second-generation Mercedes MBUX infotainment interface offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an updated Burmester Surround Sound System. The offering is rounded off with the Adaptive Highbeam Assist, heated rear seats, a 360° camera, and the MBUX Navigation Premium.
Mercedes-Benz extends customer customization options with three equipment trims for the GLE 450e 4MATIC SUV – Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. The SUV can be further individualized with the AMG Line in the interior and exterior, and with the Night package for the exterior. A variety of selectable packages, including wheels, paint, and upholstery, are available across all three trims, facilitating a tailor-made customer experience.
For 2024, the entire GLE model range introduces a bevy of updates featuring a refreshed exterior and interior, extended technology, and enhanced equipment. All models will feature mild hybrids with a 48-volt system and Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), underscoring Mercedes-Benz's commitment to electrification.
In terms of performance, the GLE 450e 4MATIC boasts impressive figures, including a top speed of 210 km/h, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, and a high-voltage battery capacity of 23.3 kWh. The official electric range is yet to be announced.
