Mercedes-Benz GLB or GLA: which one is right for you?
May 16 2022,
At Mercedes-Benz, we offer a number of sub-compact and compact SUVs to give you as many choices as possible to meet your specific needs. We have a good example of this with the GLA and GLB, two smaller products that do great things for their owners.
Now, which one to choose? It's not an easy choice, as both are packed with qualities. The truth is, no matter which one you choose, you're going to love your Mercedes-Benz. However, let's take a look at the differences between the GLA and GLB, to help you make the right choice for you.
Style and space
Let's bring together two elements that distinguish the GLA and GLB; style and interior volume. In fact, the two are at least partially inseparable.
First, the GLA gives you more fluid, aggressive lines. This SUV takes on the look of a sporty coupe. In the case of the GLB, the squarer shape of the model is that of a more traditional SUV, designed primarily to be useful and less focused on performance.
The first question to ask yourself is which one you are interested in. However, you have to understand that this has an impact on cargo capacity. With the GLA, behind the second row of seats, there's 435 liters; it's 765 liters with the GLB. Then, with the second row seats folded down, the volume is 1,430 with the GLA. That's good, but the GLB's rear end means that it offers 1,755 liters.
Three rows
This rear shape of the GLB means that it can offer something unthinkable with the GLA; a third row of seats. Of course, the third row is for convenience and is ideal for transporting smaller children, but if it's useful for you, you need a GLB more than a GLA.
Performance
Finally, when it comes to performance, both models give you a run for your money, because in addition to their base (250) 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine configuration offering 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, both models are available in 35 AMG versions, this time with a 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque version of the same powertrain.
If you like something spicier, it's possible, but only with the GLA. The GLA is available in a 45 AMG version, which increases the same powertrain's horsepower to 382 and torque to 354 lb-ft.
That's really amazing with such a small model.
As for the rest, comfort is a bit more comfortable with the GLB and the sporty side is still a bit more present with the GLA. Otherwise, the interior layout is very similar, as is the list of equipment and options.
