Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE Coupe: Which one to choose?
April 25 2022,
What do you do when you have to choose between two vehicles that really interest you? The question is simple, but the answer is not always easy. If they are two completely different products, the comparison of strengths and weaknesses will eventually determine a winner.
However, when we are talking about the same model, but served with a different sauce, the dilemma is understandable. In fact, the question is whether you like your sauce sweeter or spicier.
Let's see if it's the Mercedes-Benz GLE or the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe that leaves a spicier taste on the tongue.
Power
That spicier taste is something you'll find with every model, as both GLEs are offered in 450 and AMG 53 trim levels. At the helm is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that's quick to spit out 362 and 429 horsepower, respectively.
The difference is more in the curtain raiser, with a mild-mannered GLE in the regular version. The GLE 350 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that's good for 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. It's less expensive, of course, which may have an impact on your decision.
The interior layout
On board both models, there's essentially the same layout, but behind the first row of seats, there are differences in terms of cargo space. The GLE Coupe offers a total of 1,790 liters of cargo space, while the conventional version offers 2,055 litres. This is normal considering the shape of the rear end. However, it shouldn't influence your choice, unless you're used to carrying massive stuff. To be sure, come see us at the dealership with your measuring tape.
The design
Finally, it is perhaps the style of the model that will influence your decision the most, especially if the other elements are not a consideration. With the regular GLE, you have the most conventional SUV styling available. It's elegant, but understated. With the GLE Coupe, the beauty is still there, but with a character that turns heads.
In the end, perhaps the best news is that you're sure to make a good choice with either one. You just have to assess your needs.
