Mercedes-Benz presents its all-new 2022 C-Class
February 25 2021,
There will be something new, again, at Mercedes-Benz later this year. Indeed, the company has just unveiled the new generation C-Class, a car that needs no introduction.
Completely redesigned for 2022, it will arrive before the end of the year. Just to get a good idea of what to expect, let's take a quick look at what it has in store for us, both in terms of design, technology and powertrains.
A small S-Class
The styling of the new C-Class draws heavily on the styling of the larger S-Class sedan, which is great because the company's flagship model has spectacular lines. Designers have managed to reduce its proportions, but without losing its essence.
In terms of size, we're going to see a slightly bigger model. In other words, the wheelbase is one inch longer, the model is 0.5 inches wider and in length, we're adding 2.5 inches to the measurement. Visually, we notice a roofline less plunging towards the back. Of course, the front and rear have been redesigned, but you can still recognize the company's signature. In particular, it features a wider front grille for a more authoritative presence. It will also benefit from new visual signatures, both on the headlights and the taillights.
The technology
Once inside, you will of course find an environment that exudes luxury, but nowadays, slipping into the seats of a Mercedes-Benz car also means getting into the cockpit of a model packed with technology. The more traditional layout of the dials that were always present in the C-Class gives way to a 12.3-inch screen that will offer the same information as before but in an even more modern and personalized way.
In the center console, a new 11.9-inch screen that's positioned vertically and tilted 6 inches toward the driver will conceal a host of functions giving access to the car's secrets, including the most recent update of Mercedes-Benz's multimedia system, the MBUX. Fingerprint recognition for access to some of the more sensitive information will even be available.
In addition, rich equipment, a high-end sound system, security features by the ton and optimal construction quality await us.
Under the hood
Finally, at first, we will only be allowed a single powertrain, an improved version of the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that currently equips the model. It will still offer the same 255 horsepower, but its torque will increase from 273 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft. In addition, EQ Boost technology has been added. This lightweight 48-volt hybrid system helps the vehicle in certain situations, especially during start-ups, by providing additional power.
A revised and improved suspension, a nine-speed automatic transmission that's just as precise as ever, and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system that's just as reassuring as ever, are other key elements that we'll be able to count on.
While we wait for other variants to make their way into the lineup, we're already looking forward to finding out what this all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is all about.
