Mercedes-Benz Rolls Out Over-the-Air Updates for Enhanced Entertainment and Navigation

In a move to keep its vehicles up-to-date with the latest in-car experiences, Mercedes-Benz is deploying over-the-air (OTA) updates to more than 700,000 cars globally. The updates target vehicles outfitted with second-generation MBUX systems and will be rolled out between August and November 2023. Users will be notified via their MBUX display or the Mercedes me app, and can then download the MBUX Entertainment Update (2.4) through the Update Wizard.
Key among the new features is the integration of Dolby Atmos audio technology. This advanced system elevates in-car audio beyond the conventional stereo setup, enriching sound clarity, depth, and spatial orientation. The technology aims to present music in a way that aligns with the artist’s original vision, offering a more immersive listening experience.
Another noteworthy update is directed towards enhancing the front passenger experience. Now, the audio from dynamic content on the front passenger display can be streamed through the car's in-cabin sound system, eliminating the need for headphones. Furthermore, users can customize the front passenger display with their own selected images through the Mercedes me app.
First-generation MBUX vehicles are not left out either; they will now have access to Place Details, a feature powered by Google. This function delivers comprehensive information about over 200 million businesses and landmarks globally, including operating hours, reviews, and photos. The feature is automatically made available as it's server-based.
Lastly, the OTA updates will include improvements in navigation for both first and second-generation MBUX systems. The enhancements aim to optimize route planning and guidance, particularly benefiting plug-in hybrid and all-electric models by increasing their range efficiency.
