The AMG 35 version of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class finally makes its debut
May 29 2020,
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been on the market in Europe for over 20 years, but back home we'd only heard about this model without ever being able to admire it up close. Last year, the silver-starred company finally reviewed its strategy and decided to take its entry-level product across the ocean.
As is often the case at Mercedes-Benz, we first got the so-called basic versions, in order to meet the demand of the masses. This year, it's performance enthusiasts' turn to rub their hands together, as the A 35 AMG livery arrives on our continent.
What does it have in store for us? Here are a few things to keep in mind.
First of all, you should know that under the hood, the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that serves the other versions is still in the mix with this variant, except that its capacity has been increased. Rather than offering 221 horsepower, it offers 302. As for torque, it reaches 295 lb-ft of torque instead of 258. In the end, 1.5 seconds was shaved to do the 0-100 km/h with this model now capable of doing that sprint in 4.7 seconds. It's all made easier by the AMG Selectshift AMG seven-speed automatic transmission with dual clutches.
As for the chassis, nothing was left to chance. Two suspension configurations are available, each with sporty AMG signature settings. The brakes are also more aggressive, as are the steering and all-wheel drive.
It's also worth noting that the weight distribution of this AMG variant is 50/50, the ideal ratio for an intense, supportive and safe driving experience.
As for the interior, Mercedes didn't skimp on that, either. The presentation is rich and the materials are excellent. Technologically, the model is a benchmark throughout the industry, thanks in particular to the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia interface.
Finally, this A-Class 35 AMG is available in both four-door (sedan) and five-door (hatchback) configurations.
A road test?
