The New Mercedes-Benz EQS Will Be Very Special
June 18 2021,
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS is poised to be the most luxurious and technologically advanced electric vehicle on the planet. It encompasses all the luxury and heritage of the S-Class, but is built around zero-emission philosophy that extends to the powertrain, but also the refinements and materials used in the cabin.
Here, we take a look at how special the EQS will be.
The 2022 EQS deploys maximum EV power and range
The EQS will silently power through your commute or weekend escapade using a choice of fully electric powertrains that will cater to your every need. The EQS450+ will provide 329 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels for unparalleled sportiness. But the EQS580 4Matic variant will channel 516 hp and 611 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels, making it a real all-season high-performance luxury car.
A 107.8-kWh battery powers both powertrains, and gives the EQS more than 500 kilometres of range. When you plus the EQS to a 200kW charging station, it will get as much as 300 kilometres of renewed range in 15 minutes. Also, with a 9.6kWh onboard charger, the battery can be fully charged in 10 hours (which is literally overnight) using a level 2 (240V) power source.
Every EQS rides on an adaptive air suspension and is equipped with 19 to 21 inch wheels depending on the variant. For busy urbanites, the standard rear-axle-steering system can angle the rear wheels up to 4.5 degrees or 10 degrees with an optional upgrade, making it easier to park and maneuver. Rear-drive variants can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. Opting for the more powerful all-wheel-drive model will reduce this time to 4.1 seconds.
A modern, yet ecologically responsible interior in the 2022 EQS
Just like the S-Class, the EQS opens up with great luxuries and refinement. But because it follows a strict zero-emission philosophy, it features ecologically sourced materials. For example, the DINAMICA microfiber in crystal white sourced from recycled bottles and the roof liner developed from recycled ocean plastic.
