Winter tires are not to be neglected
September 30 2019,
Although there are still a few days left in summer, the fact remains that winter is about to arrive. For some, especially winter sports fans, this is good news. For others, however, cold mornings and snowstorms are not necessarily welcome! Regardless of which side of the fence you stand on, there is an absolute truth about winter: winter tires are necessary.
Even if your Mercedes-Benz is equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive, one of the most efficient in the industry, it will not help you as well as it shoulld and ensure optimal traction if you do not have winter tires.
Why are winter tires important?
Winter tires are designed to perform when temperatures are cold. Good winter tires remain flexible and the rubber remains soft when the weather outside drops below 7 degrees which means they retain their maximum traction even in very cold weather.
Obviously, they are also designed to evacuate the snow under the vehicle thanks to their adapted grooves. Without these grooves, snow accumulates on the tire’s surface which reduces traction and increases braking distances. The slots on the tire are also able to act as suction cups to slow down more quickly and keep the vehicle stable when cornering on ice.
For better stability on both snow and ice, there are no substitutes for winter tires, but even when it's sunny outside their grip is greatly improved compared to all-season tires. Come and find the right tires for your Mercedes-Benz vehicle today at Mercedes-Benz Ottawa.
