2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC: a roadster with character
July 05 2016,
Its predecessor, the SLK, was launched in 1996 and achieved sales of 670,000 units worldwide. The new SLC line-up is composed of the SLC 300 and the high performance SLC 43. Both models feature unique character and premium equipment and are equipped with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard.
On the outside, designers have increased character with more aggressive lines and a brand new front section composed of an arrow-shaped hood and the standard diamond radiator grille. Moreover, the bumper features audacious air intakes and standard LED daytime running lamps integrated into the headlamps. Buyers may also opt for an LED High Performance Lighting System.
In the rear, the bumper features a black diffuser and unique tail light units that now feature LED technology along with a unique, revamped horizontally divided design.
Inside, the main feature of the SLC is its vario-roof that combines open-top driving pleasure with uncompromised comfort in poor weather. Operating the electrohydraulic roof can be done at a standstill, or at a speed of up to approximately 40 km/h. Another great feature on the SLC is the AIRSCARF, a neck-level heating system for the driver and passenger.
The interior now features new light (standard) or dark aluminum trim parts with a carbon fibre finish, and a redesigned instrument cluster. Moreover, the display in the centre console is now 7 inches instead of 5.8 inches.
Under the hood, both variants of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC feature powerful engines. The SLC 300 is fitted with a four-cylinder engine that delivers 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. This variant can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 sec and has a top speed of 210 km/h. The performance oriented SLC 43 is equipped with a more powerful twin-turbo V6 engine that boasts 362 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque.
The SLC is equipped with the DYNAMIC SELECT function, which can adjust the vehicle characteristics via a button that is located in the upper control panel on the dashboard console. Elements like the engine, the transmission, steering and suspension can be customized to the drivers’ tastes depending on the drive he or she seeks. The five available modes are “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “Eco” and “Individual”.
Finally, the SLC 43 features an AMG Sport exhaust system as standard, and uses the two adjustable exhaust flaps to adapt the sound to the mode selected via DYNAMIC SELECT.
