2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC vs. 2021 Volvo XC60: several steps ahead
April 16 2021,
In the compact luxury SUV segment, there are several models that are really interesting for consumers. This is the case when you look at Volvo's offering in the form of the 2021 XC60. It's also the case with Mercedes-Benz, which is offering the 2021 GLC, an SUV that really needs no introduction.
If you're in the market for one of these vehicles and you're hesitating between the two presented here, here are a few arguments that might help you make a choice.
Performance
When you're interested in a luxury SUV, it's clear that the performance offered to you is part of the selection criteria. Here, you'll be spoiled by both Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, but the latter will give you a bit more.
Specifically, there are three powertrain configurations on each side. At Mercedes-Benz, they are called GLC 300, GLC AMG 43 and GLC AMC 63 S. In all cases, the power offered is higher than the respective variants that adopt the names T5, T6 and T8 at Volvo. Most importantly, Mercedes-Benz uses different engines for its variants: a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 3-liter twin-turbocharged V6, and a 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. At Volvo, there is only a 2-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine that is tuned differently for each variant.
While the efficiency is there, the feel is not. Accelerating with Mercedes-Benz's V8 engine is unmatched; Volvo's 4-cylinder can't match it.
Styling
Let's be honest, we're looking at two very attractive vehicles. With the 2021 Volvo XC60, the elegance is there. With the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC, character is dominant. An advantage? Yes, on the side of Mercedes-Benz, which offers two different body styles, the standard approach as well as the one with the plunging roofline, that of the GLC Coupe.
For those who like choice...
A more inviting and user-friendly interior
Volvo is going for a minimalist approach on board. The presentation is nice, but there's nothing flashy about it. With the 2021 GLC, it's the opposite as you're immersed in an environment that pleases the eye. Whether it's more colorful instruments, more eye-catching color contrasts, or a much more user-friendly multimedia interface, your senses are appealed to in the GLC.
So, for all its work, the GLC is the one that gives you more in every respect, not to mention that when it comes to prestige and resale value, it also eclipses its Swedish rival.
