2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Innovations by the tonne
October 15 2020,
When Mercedes-Benz renews its S-Class, the automotive world stops and takes notes. The company's flagship model is always the one with which the latest technologies are presented. And since the year 2021 marks the beginning of a new generation of the S-Class, it's worth taking a look at what the S-Class has to offer. To get an idea, here are three innovations that will set the benchmark.
1 - Rear airbags
While rear seat passengers have been using side airbags to protect them in the event of a collision for years, no model on the market offered front airbags in the event of an impact. This is no longer the case, as the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class becomes the first car to offer such a safety feature.
2 - Side collisions
Side collisions are among the most dangerous for vehicle occupants. Firstly, because they are often surprising, but also because they strike where one is most vulnerable. In the next S-Class, occupants will benefit from an extra layer of protection thanks to Pre-Safe Impulse. Basically, thanks to sensors that will be able to detect vehicles that are likely to hit the sides of the car, the S-Class will lift up in an attempt to reduce the force of the impact for the occupants.
3 - Sensors integrated into the steering wheel
Semi-autonomous driving systems allow us to enjoy small moments of respite at the wheel, but they require us to keep an eye on the road and one hand on the wheel. In fact, in order to keep these systems in place, we often need to give the steering wheel a little direction, as if to show the car that we're still in control. With the new S-Class, this won't be necessary, because by keeping your hand still on the steering wheel, it will be able to detect it thanks to two integrated sensors. Science fiction, nothing less!
