Mercedes-Benz Enhances EV Charging Options with Tesla Supercharger Access and Its Own Network
August 18 2023,
Starting from 2024, Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle (EV) drivers in North America will be able to utilize over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers, marking a significant stride in the brand's commitment to ensure superior charging accessibility for its customers. This collaboration is complemented by Mercedes-Benz's announcement to inaugurate its own High-Power Charging Network, with the first charging hubs set to open in the last quarter of 2023.
A pivotal aspect of this charging initiative is Mercedes-Benz's adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its new EVs by 2025. For a smooth transition, from 2024 onwards, the automaker will also provide adapters to make its existing CCS BEVs compatible with the NACS network. This places Mercedes-Benz as the first German OEM to fully embrace the NACS ports in its electric vehicles.
In the words of Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group, "Our strategic priority is clear: Building the world's most desirable cars... That's why we are committed to building our global Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network... In parallel, we are also implementing NACS in our vehicles."
Furthering its dedication to enhance EV infrastructure, Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with its American partners, aims to establish over 400 Charging Hubs in North America. These hubs will host more than 2,500 high-power chargers by the end of the decade. Moreover, each hub will be equipped with both CCS1 and NACS plugs, promoting universal charging solutions. The brand's global vision encompasses over 2,000 Charging Hubs across North America, Europe, China, and other central markets by the decade's conclusion. Significantly, this totals more than 10,000 charging points that will be open to all EV brands.
Andrew Cornelia, CEO of Mercedes-Benz HPC North America, expressed confidence in this initiative, emphasizing that Mercedes-Benz is "ready to redefine the electric vehicle charging experience."
With these strategic moves, Mercedes-Benz is clearly poised to streamline the EV charging experience for its customers, providing unparalleled accessibility and convenience.
