Mercedes-Benz Vans Canada has announced the pricing details and features of its first fully-electric van for the North American market, the all-new eSprinter. With technical innovations and an impressive range, this cargo van aims to redefine efficiency in the electric vehicle sector.
Technical Specifications and Pricing
Slated for market availability at the end of October 2023, the eSprinter comes in a 170-inch long wheelbase cargo version featuring a high-roof configuration. It is powered by a 113 kWh Lithium/iron phosphate battery, devoid of cobalt or nickel. With a starting base MSRP of $97,990, the vehicle offers a WLTP range of over 400 km. Additionally, it will qualify for the federal government's iMHZEV EV program, providing a purchase incentive of up to $10,000.
Charging and Range Management
The eSprinter offers multiple charging options for users. Its on-board AC charger has a 9.6 kW maximum output, while DC fast-charging capability is standard at up to 50 kW. An optional upgrade allows for up to 115 kW DC fast charging, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in slightly over 40 minutes. The vehicle also integrates with the Mercedes me Charge network, providing convenient access to nationwide charging stations through a seamless payment function.
Driving Features and Interior Amenities
The all-new eSprinter doesn't skimp on features that enhance driving experience and operational efficiency. It offers three distinct drive programs—eco, comfort, and max range—and five recuperation stages to optimize electrical consumption and range. The van employs radar sensor technology to automatically adjust the energy recovery rate according to traffic conditions.
The electric powertrain comprises an efficient motor and an innovative electric rear axle, both firsts for a Mercedes-Benz battery-electric van. Available in two power levels, the motor can produce up to 295 lb.-ft. of torque.
For an intuitive driving experience, the optional Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) includes voice control and touch-based functionalities. It also features an optional digital rear-view mirror, enhancing visibility and safety.
Customization and Upfitting
The van offers flexibility for various commercial needs, capable of being upfitted to a mobile workshop or a spacious delivery van. Mercedes-Benz Canada's trusted eXpertUpfitter partners offer customization solutions like shelving systems or heavy-duty wood floors. The van can carry a permissible gross vehicle weight of 4.25 tonnes, with a load capacity of 14 m³.
This latest offering from Mercedes-Benz Vans Canada is geared towards the future, blending technological innovation with practicality and efficiency. With its October release date fast approaching, the eSprinter is set to make its mark in the Canadian electric vehicle market.
