The Mercedes-Benz Exit Warning function: what is it?
October 19 2020,
When you park your car on a crowded street, there's a danger waiting for you when you exit; a collision with a cyclist, a motorcycle, a pedestrian, in short, anyone who may be passing in front of you when you want to get out.
This danger is so much a concern of the authorities that awareness campaigns have already taken place to inform motorists of the risks related to such inattention. The authorities have even coined an expression to describe the phenomenon, i.e. "dooring". It is serious.
That's why Mercedes-Benz has taken the matter at heart. Better yet, it did it in a very simple way, by adapting a safety technology it already uses to reduce collisions.
The latter is the vehicle's Blind Spot Monitoring Alert. Thanks to the new Exit Warning function, this alert works for three minutes after the engine has been turned off.
This way, even when stopped, your Mercedes vehicle is monitoring the action in the blind spot. If a cyclist, motorcycle, rider or other car approaches, it does the same thing as when you're on the road; it emits a visual alert in the rearview mirror.
Where it does more is that if you try to get out of the car at the same time, using the door handle will cause an extra beep and turn on the ambient door lighting which will turn red and flash. The warning is therefore at its maximum to immediately stop the door opening operation, thus avoiding an unfortunate and even dangerous incident.
This feature proves one thing; for Mercedes-Benz, safety is everyone's business.
