Three interesting features of the Mercedes-Benz MBUX system
June 03 2020,
In today's vehicles, on-board multimedia systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated. More importantly, they can help us in so many ways, not to mention adding to our consumer experience in terms of connectivity and user-friendliness.
At Mercedes-Benz, a new system was introduced last year, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). From the moment it hit the market, it has been the talk of the town for all the right reasons, because it pushes back the interaction between man and machine.
Here are three of its features, which are both interesting and innovative.
1 - Speech recognition
Voice recognition systems are not new, but the MBUX system goes further. In addition to recognizing instructions to activate the heated seats, change the radio station or adjust the temperature, it can answer questions just like a Google or Amazon assistant, for example. Have you forgotten what year the Montreal Canadiens won their last Stanley Cup? MBUX can answer your question.
2 - Ways to access the system
Generally, multimedia systems are accessible in one or two different ways. The MBUX offers four ways of interacting with it, leaving the user with many options. Of course, the tactile approach is easy to use when stationary, but not on the road, where it is important to keep your eyes on the road. There's also voice recognition, as well as a touchpad with which you can interact as you do with your cell phone. Then, when you need to keep your hands on the wheel, the steering wheel has two small touchpads that allow access to the system. No other system offers such user-friendly access.
3 - Configurable instrument cluster
Configurable instrument clusters are nothing new, but once again, Mercedes-Benz is raising the bar here. In addition to three predefined gauge modes (Modern, Classic and Sport), each can display its own range of information and can be played with reduced or full-screen modes, for example for navigation. Screen themes are also linked to the selected driving mode, and the system also offers settings to adjust the ambient light on board to match that of the selected instruments.
