Two elements that separate the Mercedes-Benz GLE from the BMW X5
August 31 2018,
The luxury mid-size SUV segment is packed with high-quality models that are battling it out to get consumer dollars. Strangely, however, two models often come back to the top of the list despite the fact that there are many options in the segment.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5 are two of the best-selling models in the category, if not the best-selling ones. More affordable, the Mercedes-Benz GLE has a slight advantage over its rival BMW at first, but you have to dig to find considerable differences between the two models.
There are however two places where the Mercedes-Benz GLE has a slight advantage over the BMW X5. Let's see that more closely.
Engines
The Mercedes-Benz GLE has the advantage of offering a wider choice of engines than its competition. This does not exclude the X5. The Mercedes-Benz has more engine options to offer than BMW with its X5 not to mention that the engines of the GLE are for the most part more powerful than their rivals at BMW.
The base engine, for example, offers 329 horsepower versus 300. The GLE is a little lighter than the X5, and so the difference is noticeable. The second most powerful engine in the X5 range offers 335 horsepower. In the GLE, you get a 385-horsepower engine in the GLE 43 AMG, or 449 horsepower in the GLE 550.
It is also important to mention that GLE engines are not necessarily less fuel efficient despite their extra power.
Interior space
The GLE is a little more spacious than the X5 too. Indeed, it has for example 690 liters of cargo space which is slightly higher than the X5. In the cabin, it's the same thing as the Mercedes-Benz offers a little more space for passengers.
