What dangers should you watch out for on the road in the fall?
October 25 2021,
As a motorist, we know that we must adapt our driving in winter. However, should the same be done in the fall? The answer is yes, and here are a few reasons why.
1 – Outside temperature
Is your vehicle still wearing its summer tires? If so, then you need to pay special attention to the temperature outside. Why? Because when the temperature drops below seven degrees Celsius, your summer tires are no longer effective in sticking to the road.
2 – Dead leaves
Speaking of sticking to the road, that's what any type of tire refuses to do on a pavement littered with wet, dead leaves. The effect here is the same as driving on ice, except that you will naturally reduce speed on ice, not necessarily on leaves.
3 - Animals
Wild animal movements are more frequent in the fall. Add to that the fact that we drive around in the dark more often at this time of year and you will understand that we are exposed to unwanted encounters more often. There are two ways to avoid hitting an animal on the road at night; keep your eyes open and reduce your speed.
4 - Rain
The amounts of rain that hits our roads in the fall can be overwhelming at times and puddles can appear all over the place. Always be on the lookout by looking far ahead to spot them. Moreover, if you are still on your summer tires, keep in mind that the rubber will be harder and will have more difficulty evacuating the water.
5 - Fog
Fog can form quickly in the fall because of the changing weather conditions. It is important to keep this in mind. If you encounter fog, reduce your speed and turn on your headlights and of course, your fog lights!
